The Storehouse

The Storehouse food pantry distributes shelf-stable food and fresh produce on site at the Bethany Center in Homewood on the 3rd Saturday of each month from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

The critical anchor of our food pantry is shelf-stable pantry items from the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. However, we believe that it's important to go above and beyond for our neighbors. So, we also partner with local businesses to acquire fresh fruits and vegetables and, occasionally, personal care products, and PPE as well.

Register for the Storehouse on-site at the Bethany Center.

Thanksgiving Food Drive:

Our Storehouse pantry volunteers are putting together meal kits for guests with ingredients for a family-sized main dish, side dishes, and dessert. We want to make sure that we're well stocked on our most popular items first!

Here's what we need:

Canned Sweet Potatoes

Canned Collard Greens

Canned Green Beans

Instant Mashed Potatoes

Chicken Stock or Bouillon

Jars of Gravy

Boxes of Stuffing Mix

You can also contribute by donating funds. We've set a goal to raise $1,000 to supplement the goods we receive so that all of our guests get a complete meal. Cash and checks are accepted. Make checks out to Bethany Community Ministries.

The Homewood community lacks its own grocery store, farmer’s market, or other healthy food provider, making it a food desert.

The food pantry at BCM began over 20 years ago in response to the need to reduce the stigma of hunger in our community, and help mitigate the barriers to access that living in a food desert creates for our neighbors. In addition to a geographical lack of access to healthy food, members of the Homewood South community are significantly more likely to experience poverty compared to residents of the City of Pittsburgh at large. The Storehouse pantry aims to address these needs by not only providing food, but also connecting our neighbors to other resources that aid them in taking care of their health and well-being.
