Afghans for Veterans Delivery

February 28, 2023 | Program Update

On Tuesday, February 14th, members of The Shawl Project presented 53 handcrafted afghans (with additional blankets donated by Caring Crafters) to the residents of Veterans Place to thank them for their service. We were overjoyed with the success of our visit, and the warm welcome we received as we set up the space and presented our gifts.

The Mission of Veterans Place is “to empower veterans’ transition from homeless to home, ending the cycle of homelessness, and to assist all at-risk veterans to become engaged, valuable citizens who contribute to their communities.” Members of the Shawl Project communicate our care through gifts of physical comfort, which we hope will continue to remind the residents of Veterans Place that they are not forgotten. Thus, our goal was that each veteran in their program receive a warm hug in the form of an afghan.

Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. As it is written: "They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor; their righteousness endures forever."

Members of the Shawl Project will continue to make and donate handcrafts to those in need throughout the year! Here's how you can support our program:
